What is Conductive Education?

Conductive Education (CE), also known as the Pető Method, is the foundation of Move & Walk's pedagogy. It was created by Hungarian physician András Pető in the 1940s. The concept has been further developed by Eszter Horváth Tóthné, the founder of Move & Walk, and adapted to the Swedish healthcare, education, and social care system.

The holistic perspective is a distinguishing feature of CE. It is a special pedagogical, interdisciplinary, and complex knowledge system that simultaneously develops motor, social, cognitive, and communicative abilities.

When individuals have different conditions for exploring the world, themselves, and their capabilities, they require an educational approach tailored to their specific needs. If someone is born with a brain injury or acquires one later in life, resulting in motor difficulties, they face challenges when engaging in activities such as playing with a doll or a ball. Their limited ability to explore their environment and learn new things through movement poses a barrier.. Man har begränsade möjligheter att genom sina rörelser kunna upptäcka sin omgivning och lära sig nya saker.

The CE approach places emphasis on the participant's independence, where their needs and goals shape the comprehensive CE program. Conductors (special educators) are known for their positive and forward-looking attitude. They view motor disabilities or multiple disabilities as a starting point for developmental possibilities rather than obstacles or problems.

While the group is an important part of the pedagogy, all treatments/training, including those conducted in a group setting, are based on the individual's needs.
